FUFA Super 8: High-Stakes Action Looms in the Semifinals

Whereas the rustiness was visible from how the quarterfinals of the FUFA Super 8 panned out, there were also captivating moments in performance ahead of the new season.

This year’s edition has reached the semifinals stage and all is set for thrilling matches with holders BUL still in contention for the holy grail.

The 2019 winners Vipers SC are also still in the race alongside Kitara and the Uganda Cranes Select Team.

After dumping out Maroons 4-1 on aggregate, 1-1 and 3-0 in the first and second leg, respectively, BUL will face Kitara in the semifinals.

The Royals saw off 2018 champions KCCA 4-3 on aggregate. Kitara won the first leg 1-0 before a six-goal thriller in a 3-3 draw on Tuesday.

On the other hand, the Venoms who needed an away goals rule to eject NEC after the goalless draw in Kitende and a one-all stalemate at Lugogo will play the Uganda Cranes Select Team.

The Uganda Cranes Select Team were responsible for the elimination of the Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa.

Sam Ssimbwa’s team defeated Morley Byekwaso’s men in both legs, 2-1 and 1-0, apiece, to cap a 3-1 aggregate score.

Meanwhile, KCCA will play Maroons whilst Villa will come up against NEC in the placement games.

Writer’s Moment: I would agree with the general consensus that Kitara striker Dennis Omedi’s rabona strike was the best moment of the quarterfinals.

Omedi attempts a rabona in every game and this time round it paid off and his strike hitting the upright on the left before it went in made it look even more beautiful.

Semifinals – Saturday, August 10

Kitara vs BUL
Vipers vs Cranes Select

Placements Games – Sunday, August 11
