Ugandan Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai continued her impressive form at the Golden Gala Wanda Diamond League meeting, securing a second-place finish in the women’s 3000m steeplechase.
Chemutai’s time of 8:48.03 not only earned her a silver medal but also shattered the Ugandan national record.
The race was dominated by Bahraini athlete Winfred Yavi, who narrowly missed breaking the world record with a time of 8:44.39.
Yavi had previously finished first in front of Chemutai at the Paris Olympics and repeated her feat at the Diamond League Meeting.
Despite finishing behind Yavi, Chemutai’s performance solidified her position as one of the world’s leading steeplechasers.
Chemutai’s impressive showing in Rome further cements her status as a favorite for the upcoming World Athletics Championships.
