League leaders Rox Berry Pool Club will face their toughest challenge yet when they host fellow title contenders Scrap Buyers Pool Club on Sunday, September 15, in Kiwanga on Match Day 5 of the Men’s National Pool League.
Scrap Buyers are currently tied in second place together with Upper Volta and Mbale Pool Club, just 2 points behind Rox Berry, and come into the fixture riding high after a commanding 12-08 win over Capital Night last weekend.
However, Rox Berry remain the only team in the league boasting a flawless record, winning all their four matches so far.
While the league leaders have proven themselves a formidable force, their streak of bonus-point victories came to an end last weekend when Corporate Shooters halted their momentum.
Despite the slip, Rox Berry still hold the top spot with 13 points, leaving Scrap Buyers, Upper Volta, and Mbale close behind with 11 points each.
With Rox Berry’s star player, Sejemba Ibra being denied his usual perfect run last weekend, managing only two wins from four games, the onus will be on Scrap Buyers’ key players; Kayanja Ibra, Gumikiriza Alfred, Ssebuguzi Habie, Ssenyonjo Glorious, Sengonge Laurence, and Nsubuga Humphrey to rise to the occasion and dethrone the league leaders.
On the other hand, Rox Berry’s supporting cast of Lukomwa Azali, Kasozi Joseph, Semukwano Arnold, and Ouma Jonathan will need to step up alongside Sejemba Ibra to maintain their grip on the top of the table.
Meanwhile, joint second-placed Mbale Pool Club will be eager to secure a win and a bonus point to also put them in contention for top spot, when they visit Adi’s Pool Club.
The match-up will also take place on Sunday at Adi’s Spot in Kireka, and will be live on NBS Sport starting at 5 PM.
Mbale come off a hard-fought 11-09 victory over Kireka and will look to continue their winning form.
Adi’s however, who are currently fifth on the table, will be eager to bounce back after their 11-09 loss to Wakiso City.
Elsewhere, Upper Volta Pool Club, fresh from a dominant 16-04 win over Sinkers, will be looking to keep their title hopes alive as they travel to face Capital Night.
With a bonus point already in hand from last week’s performance, Upper Volta will aim for another victory to keep pace at the top of the table.
Other match-ups in the league will see Greater Mukono host Sinkers, Wakiso City take on Corporate Shooters, Club 408 battle Pot-It, Tororo Tigers verse E-Play Billiards, and Kireka go up against Nakawa Rangers in what promises to be an action-packed weekend of pool action.
