In a time when sharing in-depth performance insights has become essential across all sports, Uganda’s She Cranes are missing a critical component: a media officer.
This absence will make it difficult for fans and supporters to follow the team’s journey at the Fast5 World Netball Series beyond basic results.
Despite efforts by UBC journalist John “Barnes” Ssentamu to volunteer and travel with the team, financial constraints have prevented his participation.
This situation echoes a similar issue last year, when the She Cranes lacked dedicated media coverage at the World Cup in South Africa, until former federation president Sarah Babirye Kityo personally funded media officer Jackson Kayiira’s travel.
Now under new leadership with President Jocelyn Ucanda and rebranded as Netball Uganda, the federation continues to face this challenge.
The She Cranes will open their Fast5 campaign on November 9 in New Zealand, taking on top-ranked Australia, followed by matches against hosts New Zealand and England.
