In a significant development for Tanzanian football, FIFA has imposed an international transfer ban on Young Africans SC (Yanga), the club where Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho currently plays.
The ban comes as a result of Yanga’s failure to fulfill financial obligations towards former player Augustine Okrah.
This decision could have a major impact on Yanga’s squad depth and future player acquisitions, putting additional pressure on the club to resolve the matter promptly.
The ban was communicated by FIFA’s Head of Disciplinary, Americo Espallargas, in a letter dated November 11, 2024.
The letter cites that Young Africans SC has not met its financial obligations as required by a prior decision in the case involving Augustine Okrah, a former player at the club.
Due to the outstanding debt, Yanga is now barred from registering new players internationally until the payment is settled.
In addition to the international ban, FIFA has requested the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) to implement a similar ban at the national level, ensuring that Yanga is restricted from signing players both domestically and internationally until the issue is resolved.
Yanga competes in both the Tanzanian Premier League and CAF tournaments, the inability to register new players could strain the team’s resources, especially if injuries or suspensions arise.
While Young Africans SC has yet to release an official statement, FIFA’s clear stance emphasizes the urgency of the situation.
According to the letter, the registration ban will remain in effect “until the amount due is paid.”
It is now up to the club’s management to settle the debt promptly if they wish to strengthen their squad going.
As this situation unfolds, the football community in Tanzania, Uganda, and across East Africa will be keeping a close eye on how Yanga responds to FIFA’s decision, and whether they can resolve the financial obligations swiftly to lift the ban.
