Coach Sheryl Botes Ulanda has trimmed the Uganda U17 Women’s National Football Team (Teen Cranes) squad to 25 players as they intensify preparations for the crucial CAF qualifiers against Namibia for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
The initial 39-player squad entered residential camp at the FUFA Technical Centre Njeru on Wednesday last week, undergoing rigorous training sessions.
Following careful assessment, Coach Botes made the decision to release 14 players.
“We have released some players this morning, and we are now working with a focused group of 25,” Coach Botes confirmed on Sunday evening.
“The players have been incredibly positive and receptive to our instructions since arriving at camp. We are emphasizing video sessions to clearly communicate our tactical approach and build their understanding of the game,” she added.
Coach Botes expressed satisfaction with the team’s fitness levels and their dedication to the cause.
“They are aware of the significance of these qualifiers and the challenges that lie ahead. We are constantly instilling confidence and belief in them, emphasizing that beating Namibia is achievable through collective effort and not individual brilliance,” she said.
The two-legged qualifier will take place on Thursday, January 16th and Sunday, January 19th. Both matches will be played at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo.
The winner of the aggregate score will advance to the second round of qualifiers, where they will face Kenya.
