Joshua Cheptegei Claims Historic Third Consecutive Gold at World Athletics Championships

In a stunning display of athletic prowess, Joshua Cheptegei has  secured his third consecutive gold medal in the men’s 10,000 meters at the World Athletics Championships happening in Budapest . With this remarkable achievement, Cheptegei now joins the ranks of legendary athletes like Mo Farah of Great Britain, who accomplished this feat in 2013, 2015, and 2017.

The race on Sunday was nothing short of extraordinary, as Cheptegei blazed through the track in an impressive 27 minutes and 51.42 seconds, clinching Uganda’s first medal at this year’s championships.

Cheptegei, who led a group of talented Ugandan athletes to the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, had last tasted victory on the track at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, where he triumphed in the 10,000 meters. This victory had already placed him among the ranks of Ethiopian legends like Haile Gebrselassie and Kenenisa Bekele, as well as the British track and field icon, Mo Farah, as the only individuals to have won back-to-back world 10,000-meter championships.
