Kawempe Muslim Win Appeal Over Controversial FUFA Women’s Cup Quarterfinal Exit

Kawempe Muslim Ladies Football Club have successfully won their appeal against She Corporate following a controversial FUFA Women’s Cup quarterfinal clash that ended in a premature penalty shootout.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) judicial body has ruled to nullify the result of the encounter, specifically, the penalty shootout that saw She Corporate win 6-5 after a 1-1 draw in regular time on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

The decision follows a formal petition lodged by Kawempe Muslim, contesting how the match was concluded.

Kawempe’s appeal was rooted in a violation of Article 20(3) of the tournament rules, which clearly states that if a quarterfinal match ends in a draw after 90 minutes, it must proceed to extra time comprising two halves of 15 minutes each.

Only if parity persists after the additional 30 minutes should a penalty shootout be conducted, as per Article 20(4).

However, in a deviation from these rules, the officials directed the match straight into a penalty shootout after full time, denying both sides the opportunity to resolve the contest in extra time.

Kawempe argued that this oversight not only contravened established regulations but also compromised the competitive integrity of the fixture.

In its ruling, FUFA’s judicial arm acknowledged the procedural error and confirmed that the missed 30 minutes of extra time must now be played.

A date for the continuation of the match will be announced by the competitions department in due course.

This development reopens Kawempe Muslim’s hopes of progressing to the semifinals, where Uganda Martyrs, Amus College WFC, and St. Noa Girls; who notably eliminated defending league champions Kampala Queens, have already secured their places.

Kawempe Muslim, one of the country’s most consistent performers in women’s football, are still in pursuit of their maiden FUFA Women’s Cup title.

Meanwhile, She Corporate, the reigning champions, will now have to re-enter a contest they thought they had already won; albeit under questionable circumstances.
