Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton expressed deep sorrow after hitting and killing a groundhog during Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix.
The incident on lap 13, which damaged his Ferrari’s floor and impacted his race performance (finishing sixth), overshadowed the result for the animal-loving, vegan champion.
“That’s devastating. I love animals, and I’m so sad about it. That’s horrible,” Hamilton said of the “never nice” experience. Groundhogs are common around the Montreal track.
George Russell won the race from pole, with Max Verstappen finishing second.
