Kampala University Crowned Champions at Taifa International Woodball Open

Kampala University has been crowned overall champions of the 5th Taifa International Woodball Open after a dominant display at Mount Kenya University on 29th June 2025.

The Ugandan team stormed to the top of the medal table, collecting an impressive 13 medals — six gold, four silver, and three bronze — in what turned out to be a historic outing for the Kampala University Woodball Stars.

Their victory was led by standout performer Gwaka Brian, who claimed double gold in both the Men’s Singles Stroke and Men’s Singles Fairway events.

He also teamed up with Thomas Kedi to win silver in the Men’s Doubles Stroke, confirming his status as one of the stars of the tournament.

In the men’s category, Kampala University swept both team events, winning gold in the Men’s Team Stroke and Men’s Team Fairway. Agaba Moses and Robert Ssuuna added to the medal haul with gold in the Men’s Doubles Fairway.

The women’s team also shone, with Rose Sandra Nabaggala taking gold in the Women’s Singles Stroke and bronze in the Women’s Singles Fairway.

The team secured silver in the Women’s Team Stroke and bronze in the Women’s Team Fairway, rounding off a solid all-round performance.

Coach-player Lillian Zawedde partnered with Wahala Mathias to win silver in the Mixed Doubles Fairway, while Fazil Wabulembo and Mary Namara claimed another silver in the Mixed Doubles Stroke.

Alverah Mukamarinda and Sanyu Mirembe added a bronze in the Women’s Doubles Stroke.

This was Kampala University’s debut at the Taifa International Open, but their performance was anything but beginner level.

Their triumph builds on their previous win at the Eastern Africa University Games in 2024 and cements their place as a growing force in university woodball.
