Fans heading to Mandela National Stadium for CHAN 2024 now have another transportation option. Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) has announced it will provide dedicated train transport to and from Namboole throughout the tournament.
As part of efforts to reduce traffic congestion and boost access to match venues, URC confirmed that trains will operate on match days under the campaign theme TULUMBE KU GGAALI.
The service will run on every matchday from August 4 to 18, with gates at Namboole opening at 12:00 noon. Tickets for train transport go for just Shs 2,000.
Trains will depart once they reach capacity, with pickup points expected in central Kampala and surrounding hubs.
The move comes days after the Traffic Police rolled out a strict traffic plan to manage road congestion around Kampala and Entebbe during the African Nations Championship, which Uganda is co-hosting alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
With diversions and parking restrictions already in place at Namboole, the train option is expected to be a game-changer for thousands of fans eager to support the Uganda Cranes and other Group C teams.
