Kenya is set to make its long-awaited debut at the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Sunday, facing two-time champions DR Congo in a Group B clash.
The match marks a historic moment for the hosts, who are one of two nations making their first appearance at the tournament.
The Harambee Stars, led by coach Benni McCarthy—who famously scored against DR Congo in the 1998 AFCON semi-finals—will be looking to start their campaign with a victory.
They aim to become only the second host nation to win the CHAN title on home soil.
DR Congo, the most experienced team in the tournament with seven appearances and two titles, enters the match looking to rebound from a winless campaign in 2022.
The Leopards have a strong opening game record, with four wins and one loss in their six previous CHAN openers.
