The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially welcomed diplomats from across the globe as Uganda prepares for the 2025 Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon, which is expected to draw 6,000 runners from 34 countries — the largest edition to date.
In a high-level meeting at the ministry’s headquarters in Kampala, Permanent Secretary Vincent Bagiire Waiswa urged envoys from countries including Kenya, the UAE, and the USA to rally behind their athletes and join the celebrations.
“This marathon is more than a sporting event but an opportunity to showcase Uganda’s beauty, hospitality, and global unity through sports,” Bagiire said, adding that the event aligns with the ministry’s commitment to promoting Uganda’s image internationally.
Athletes from the United States will begin arriving this Wednesday, joining thousands of participants for the scenic but challenging race through the Rwenzori region.
Margret Kafeero, Head of Public Diplomacy, assured visiting athletes of their safety and well-being, noting that comprehensive security measures are in place.
With its breathtaking landscapes and diverse field of competitors, this year’s Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon is set to be a vibrant celebration of sport, cultural exchange, and Ugandan hospitality.
