Newcastle United are on the verge of completing a significant transfer, having agreed to a deal worth approximately £40 million for Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey.
The two clubs have reached an agreement in principle, with only the final details and a medical examination left to be completed.
The transfer follows advanced talks reported by BBC Sport. Ramsey, a 24-year-old former England Under-21s international, is a product of the Aston Villa academy, which he joined at the age of six.
During his time with the senior squad since his debut in 2019, he has made 167 appearances and scored 17 goals.
The move comes just days before Aston Villa is scheduled to host Newcastle in their opening Premier League game of the season this Saturday.
This acquisition marks another addition to Newcastle’s summer signings, which also include Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest and Malick Thiaw from AC Milan on permanent deals, as well as a season-long loan for England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton.
