Arsenal are actively pursuing a deal for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, as they prioritize a new left-sided defender for their squad this summer.
The 23-year-old Ecuador international has emerged as a prime target, with sources telling BBC Sport that Arsenal’s recruitment team has been extensively monitoring him.
Hincapie, who has 46 caps for his country, has a 60 million euro (£52 million) release clause and is reportedly keen on a move before the transfer window closes.
Since joining Leverkusen in 2021, Hincapie has made 166 appearances and was a key part of the team that won the Bundesliga and German Cup in the 2023-24 season.
The Gunners have already spent over £200 million on new signings this summer and are now focusing on selling players to balance their books.
Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson, and Oleksandr Zinchenko are among the players who could be sold, while there is also interest in centre-back Jakub Kiwior from clubs like Porto.
While Tottenham had also been linked with Hincapie, sources confirm that the defender is not currently a target for Spurs.
