Former England star Wayne Rooney claims defending champions Liverpool’s current slump is due to a “lack of leadership,” singling out the body language of captain Virgil van Dijk and forward Mohamed Salah as a “big concern.”
The Reds are struggling in seventh place, seven points behind leaders Arsenal, after suffering four consecutive Premier League defeats, including a 3-2 loss to Brentford on Saturday.
Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, he said, “If their body language is not right, that affects everyone else.”
Rooney also weighed in on the title race, warning that Arsenal, who top the table, must win the league this season or manager Mikel Arteta is “at risk.”
Finally, Rooney praised his former club Manchester United’s resurgence.
He commended £65 million summer signing Bryan Mbeumo, saying the forward “belongs” at United after their third straight win lifted them to sixth place.
