Super lightweight boxer Farahat Manirola has been awarded the boxing award at the Fortebet Real Stars awards held today in Lugogo, following his impressive performance at the Africa Zone 3 boxing championship last month. Manirola won gold in the championship, defeating DR Congo’s Ben Ndjibu 4:1 in Nairobi.
The Lukanga boxing club protege beat off competition from fellow gold medalists Aziz Ringo and Willy Kyakone to take the award. Uganda’s national team had a remarkable performance, returning with 5 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze medals from the championship.
Real Stars Sports Agency CEO Isaac Mukasa praised Manirola’s achievement, saying, “He battled with Aziz Ringo for the award, but it was Manirola’s debut shine. He excelled in the competition.”
Other winners at the awards included Jacob Kiplimo, who won the athletics accolade after his Chicago marathon win, and table tennis sensation Jemimah Nakasaka, who clinched the table tennis award. The Fortebet Real Stars sports monthly awards aim to recognize outstanding sportsmen and women.
