Comoros head coach Stefano Cusin says his team is ready to embrace the “magic of football” as they face hosts Morocco in tonight’s 2025 AFCON opener.
Despite Morocco’s status as heavy favorites—bolstered by an 18-match winning streak and their historic World Cup semi-final run—Cusin believes the lack of pressure on his “minnows” could spark a massive upset.
“On paper, it is like climbing Everest,” Cusin admitted. “But pressure is mainly on Morocco. For us, the aim is to deliver a strong performance and if a surprise comes, even better.”
Comoros faces a daunting Group A alongside Mali and Zambia, but Cusin remains optimistic.
“We don’t want to place limits on ourselves. We are determined to be the surprise team of the tournament.”
