Sunderland midfielder Noah Sadiki says he is prepared to carry the expectations of a nation as DR Congo begins their 2025 AFCON campaign against Benin this Tuesday.
The 21-year-old, who has enjoyed a breakout season in the Premier League, has quickly earned 13 caps and become a vital part of the national setup.
“My responsibility is higher now that I play in the Premier League,” Sadiki said. “I can’t disappoint the people of Congo. I’m going to give my everything.”
Sadiki is joined in the squad by club teammate Arthur Masuaku, while a looming group-stage clash against Senegal on December 27 will see them face fellow Sunderland star Habib Diarra.
After recently proving the side can play attractive football rather than just “kick-and-rush,” Sadiki is confident: “We know what we can do… we need to keep on going.”
