Contractors SUMMA have formally handed over the Hoima City Stadium to the National Council of Sports ahead of its commissioning by President Yoweri Museveni on Christmas Eve.
The handover marks the completion of one of Uganda’s largest sports infrastructure projects and clears the way for the stadium to open officially to the public under government management.
NCS received the multi sports complex on behalf of government in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Ministry of Works and Transport, who supervised the project from design to completion.
The technical handover was presided over by Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports Rev Canon Dr Duncans Mugumya, representing the Ministry of Education and Sports Permanent Secretary Dr Kedrace Turyagenda.
Ministry of Works Commissioner for Public Structures Eng Edward Ssimbwa, representing Permanent Secretary Waiswa Bageya, presented SUMMA with a certificate of completion.
SUMMA Project Manager Murat Altun led officials on a detailed tour of the facility before handing over the final instruments to NCS Board Chairperson Ambrose Tashobya.
He was joined by board members Moses Omara Anyii, Hajji Zubair Galiwango, Stephen Kiprotich, Piloya Evelyn Gloria and Cecilia Anyakoit, alongside NCS General Secretary Dr Bernard Patrick Ogwel and the top management team.
Officials from NCS and the supervising ministries praised President Museveni and First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni for driving the project from conception to delivery and providing full financial support.
They also commended SUMMA for delivering the 129 million dollar stadium five months ahead of the planned 18 month schedule.
With the handover complete, Hoima City Stadium now moves into its final phase before President Museveni officially commissions the facility, with sports activities planned to mark its opening and usher in the festive season.
