UGANDAN STARS ABROAD: Okello Pulls The Strings, as Mukwala, Bogere and Kasule Raise Flag Sky-high

Ugandan footballers scattered across various leagues around the world delivered another week of encouraging performances, with several players finding the net while others produced influential displays for their respective clubs.

From commanding midfield performances in East Africa to goals in Europe and North America, the country’s exports once again left their imprint on the pitch.

England

In England’s lower tiers, defender Toby Sibbick continued to be a dependable presence for Burton Albion in League One. The Ugandan international completed the full 90 minutes in Tuesday’s 1-1 stalemate with Exeter before again playing the entire match during Saturday’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Stevenage.

At Championship level, teenage midfielder Divine Mukasa was introduced from the bench for Leicester City during their 1-1 draw with Ipswich on Tuesday, gaining further valuable minutes with the Foxes’ senior side.

Elsewhere, Bevis Mugabi was deployed as a substitute as Carlisle United battled back to secure a 2-2 draw against Southend United on Saturday.

Tanzania

Playmaker Allan Okello produced the standout Ugandan performance of the week with Tanzanian giants Young Africans (Yanga).

The gifted midfielder opened his scoring account for the club when he found the net in Yanga’s commanding 3-0 victory over Singida Black Stars on Thursday. Okello was far from finished, however.

On Sunday, the former KCCA star orchestrated proceedings with authority, supplying two assists as Yanga dismantled Tanzania Polisi 7-1 in a ruthless attacking display.

Denmark

Massively talented youngster James Bogere also enjoyed a productive outing in Denmark. The striker got his name on the scoresheet for AGF Aarhus U19 during their entertaining 5-3 triumph against Lyngby U19 on Saturday, continuing his steady development in the Scandinavian system.

Libya

In North Africa, striker Steven Mukwala maintained his impressive scoring rhythm. The forward struck in Al Nasser’s 2-0 victory over Al-Andalus on Friday, further underlining his growing importance to the Libyan outfit.

Scotland

Forward Uche Mubiru featured for Ross County in Scotland, playing 45 minutes during their 3-0 defeat to Dunfermline on Tuesday. He was later named among the substitutes but remained unused in Saturday’s goalless draw with Arbroath.

United States

Across the Atlantic, several Ugandan players were also involved in action.
Midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga completed the entire match as Oakland Roots secured a narrow 1-0 victory on Tuesday.

Ibrahim Kasule continued to showcase his attacking instincts, scoring for Connecticut FC in their Sunday clash. His effort, however, could not prevent a 4-2 defeat.

Meanwhile, Allan Oyirwoth played the full match for New England Revolution II in their goalless draw with Toronto II.

Romania

In Romania’s top flight, defender Elio Capradossi remained an unused substitute as Universitatea Cluj claimed a 3-1 win over Steaua Bucharest on Saturday.

During the same fixture, Ugandan midfielder Baba Alhassan was introduced at the start of the second half for Steaua Bucharest as they attempted to claw their way back into the contest.

Tunisia

Play-making prodigy Travis Mutyaba continues to grow in stature at CS Sfaxien. The talented midfielder completed the full match as his side edged Monastir 1-0 in a tightly contested encounter on Saturday.

Czech Republic

Left-back Aziz Kayondo was named among the substitutes for Slovan Liberec but did not feature in their 0-0 draw against Bohemians on Sunday.

South Africa

In the South African Premier Division, Ugandan goalkeepers had a quiet week.
Salim Jamal Magoola did not feature as Richards Bay stunned Kaizer Chiefs with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday, while veteran shot-stopper Denis Onyango was also on the bench when Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 2-1 win against Golden Arrows on Wednesday.

Rwanda

In the Rwandan top tier, Ronald Ssekiganda and Denis Omedi both started for APR FC as the military side played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Marines FC on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato, however, remained on the bench as Mukuru Victory edged Musanze 1-0 in a tightly fought contest.

Kenya

Ugandan left-back Mustapha Kizza produced one of the most eye-catching displays of the weekend in Kenya.

The attacking full-back supplied two assists as Nairobi United demolished BMC All Stars 8-0 on Sunday in a one-sided affair.

Defender Shafiq Batambuze was also in action the same day, helping Kakamega Homeboyz secure a convincing 3-0 victory.

Ethiopia

There were mixed fortunes for Ugandans in Ethiopia. Defender Geoffrey Wasswa endured a difficult moment after scoring an own goal in Fasil Kenema’s narrow 1-0 loss to Sidama Coffee on Wednesday.

Sidama’s Ugandan goalkeeper Emmanuel Kalyowa kept a clean sheet in that match but later conceded three times during Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Wolaitta Dicha.

Another Ugandan shot-stopper, Nathan Alionzi, enjoyed a more positive outing, delivering a solid display to help Mechal defeat Commercial Bank 2-0 on Tuesday while keeping a clean sheet.

South Sudan

In South Sudan, Uganda Cranes forward Jude Ssemugabi also got his name on the scoresheet as Jamus SC comfortably defeated Salam FC 3-0 on Friday.

Across continents, Ugandan players continued to assert their influence, whether through decisive goals, creative brilliance, or resilient defensive displays, further underlining the steadily expanding footprint of Ugandan football on the global stage.
