Four Ugandan rugby administrators and coaches have been selected for the 2026 Women in Rugby Careers Programme, a global initiative run by World Rugby aimed at strengthening leadership pathways for women in the sport.
Dorothy Nekesa, Director of Uganda Age Grade Rugby, Racheal Kampire, a member of the Uganda Sevens Committee, Koyokoyo Buteme, Head Coach of Black Pearls RFC, and Monica Baliawo N., an executive committee member at Walukuba Rugby Club, are among participants drawn from across the world for the programme.
The initiative will feature a series of seven virtual webinars running between April and November, focusing on practical career development, leadership growth, and confidence building.
It is designed for women working or volunteering in rugby, offering opportunities to gain new skills, connect with global experts, and expand professional networks within the game.
The 2026 edition builds on a pilot programme delivered in 2025, which supported more than 100 women from 56 countries. This year’s intake has been expanded to accommodate up to 250 participants, reflecting a continued push to improve representation and create clearer career pathways for women in rugby.
According to World Rugby, the programme is part of wider efforts to advance gender equality in the sport by equipping women with the tools needed to grow both on and off the field.
