Lady Canons Extend Perfect Start with Eighth Straight Win

UCU Lady Canons maintained their flawless start to the 2026 National Basketball League season with a hard-fought 66-55 victory over UPDF Lady Tomahawks at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Wednesday evening, stretching their unbeaten run to eight games.

Entering the contest live on NBS Sport 2 with a perfect 7-0 record, the Mukono-based side once again showcased resilience and balance, shaking off an early scare after the Tomahawks edged the first quarter 16-13.

The Lady Canons responded emphatically in the second period, outscoring their opponents 17-9 to take a 30-25 halftime lead. They tightened their grip after the break, dominating the third quarter 17-11 to put the game beyond reach. Although UPDF matched UCU 19-19 in the final stanza, the earlier damage proved decisive as the Canons sealed their eighth straight win.

Martinah Anyango led UCU with 12 points, while Christine Saima and Zoe Atek added 11 and 10 respectively in a balanced offensive display. Sylvia Nantongo controlled the boards with a game-high 10 rebounds, while Atek impressed further with seven assists.

For the Tomahawks, Patricia Cate Nakiru stood out with a game-high 16 points, supported by Ruth Noella Letaru’s 14. Stella Maris Lunkuse chipped in eight rebounds and five assists, but their efforts could not prevent another defeat.

The victory lifts UCU to second place, just behind leaders JT Lady Jaguars, who cruised past Miracle Eaglets 77-35 in Kira. The Lady Canons, record eight-time champions, now turn their focus to a highly anticipated clash against defending champions JT Lady Jaguars on Friday at Lugogo—a fixture already billed as a defining early-season showdown.

Elsewhere, Magic Stormers edged Victoria She Crocs 59-54 at ABJA Park in Naalya, claiming their fourth win in 10 games, while the Crocs slumped to a seventh loss in 11.

In the men’s division, UCU Canons delivered one of their most complete performances of the season, defeating JKL Dolphins 81-52 at Lugogo. Defending champions Nam Blazers extended their winning streak to six with a 73-56 victory over Rezlife Saints in Naalya, while JT Jaguars overcame UMU Flames 74-64 in Kira, handing the debutants their seventh loss in nine games.
