Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager on a five-year contract, ending days of speculation over the club’s next permanent head coach.
De Zerbi, who was the overwhelming first-choice candidate according to reports from Sami Mokbel, expressed his excitement at the challenge ahead: “I am delighted to be joining this fantastic football club, which is one of the biggest and most prestigious in the world.”
The Italian arrives at a critical juncture for Spurs, who sit 17th in the Premier League table, just one point clear of the relegation zone with seven matches left to play.
Notably, his contract does not include a relegation clause, underlining the club’s long-term commitment despite their precarious position.
De Zerbi’s managerial record offers encouragement: he boasts an impressive win percentage and points-per-game ratio across his previous clubs, a statistic Tottenham will hope translates into immediate results.
His appointment follows the abrupt departure of Igor Tudor, who left on Sunday after just 44 days in charge. Spurs have been winless in the league since December, and De Zerbi’s first test will come against Sunderland on April 12.
