Chasing the Dream: Uganda’s Paige Robinson Earns WNBA Training Camp Call-Up

By Daniel Nyeko

The Atlanta Dream strengthened their training camp roster on Monday, announcing the signing of Uganda Gazelles guard Paige Robinson. The 5’10” guard, a symbol of Uganda’s rising basketball standard, joins the Dream after a standout season in Europe and an impressive run on the continental stage.

A Global Journey to Atlanta

Robinson’s path to the WNBA has been defined by relentless work and consistent scoring. Born in Bethany, Illinois, she began her basketball journey in the Midwest before representing Uganda’s women’s national team, where she quickly became a fan favorite.

Selected 31st overall in the 2023 WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings, the Illinois State graduate has taken a productive route back to the league. Since draft night, she has evolved into a proven scorer worldwide:

– European Ascent: Robinson starred for IDK Euskotren San Sebastián in Spain’s LF Endesa, averaging 13 points per game and shooting 40% from three.
– Gazelles’ Engine: At the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket in Abidjan, she averaged 11.2 points and 4 assists, showcasing her maturity and versatility.

Atlanta Dream’s Perspective

General Manager Dan Padover praised Robinson’s international pedigree:
“Paige is a player we’ve monitored closely. She brings size, shooting, and professional experience from FIBA competition. We’re excited to see how her game fits our system.”

Head Coach Karl Smesko highlighted her versatility:
“In this league, backcourt depth is critical. Paige can create her own shot, defend multiple positions, and has shown high basketball IQ with the Gazelles. We look forward to her competitive spirit in Atlanta.”

What Robinson Brings

Robinson is a three-level scorer:
– Free throws: 84.6% accuracy
– Perimeter shooting: Reliable floor spacing
– Pick-and-roll play: Poised and effective

Her transition game and playmaking align with the Dream’s fast-paced style. While camp contracts are competitive, Robinson enters with professional experience and international credentials — not as a rookie.

Looking Ahead

Training camp begins April 26, where Robinson will compete against veterans and top draft picks for a roster spot. For Ugandan fans, her signing is already a milestone. As the Dream prepare for the 2026 season, eyes in Kampala and Atlanta will be on whether Paige Robinson can turn this opportunity into a permanent WNBA home.
