The Teen Cranes put themselves in control of the tie with a composed away performance in Harare last weekend, where first-half goals from Immaculate Acen and Lydia Nameseruka secured a two-goal cushion. That result leaves Uganda within reach of progression, provided they avoid defeat by a two-goal margin or more.
Head coach Sheryl Botes’ side is expected to rely again on the structure and discipline that limited Zimbabwe to few clear chances in the first leg. Goalkeeper Mayimuna Namuwaya was largely untested in Harare, protected by a back line that dealt comfortably with set-pieces and second balls.
Uganda’s early intensity proved decisive in the first meeting, with Acen opening the scoring in the 17th minute before Nameseruka doubled the lead six minutes later with a long-range strike. That quick spell of attacking efficiency forced Zimbabwe to chase the game, but they struggled to break down Uganda’s defensive shape.
The return leg presents a different challenge, with Zimbabwe needing at least two goals to force extra time. That urgency is likely to push them forward, which could open spaces for Uganda to exploit on the counter.
The winner on aggregate will advance to the next round of qualifiers, where either Kenya or Namibia await. Kenya currently hold a 2-1 advantage from their first leg.
