The FUFA Kadiba Stadium, current home to Uganda Premier League giants SC Villa, will only be handed over for upgrade works at the end of June 2026, the AFCON-2027 Local Organising Committee (LOC) has confirmed.
The delay is understood to allow SC Villa to complete their league campaign while also accommodating various national team preparations.
The Cubs, Teen Cranes, and Queen Cranes have all used Kadiba as a training base in recent months, making it a vital hub for both club and country.
In contrast, work on four other AFCON-2027 training facilities, Hoima Boma, Masindi Municipal, Lira University, and Gulu University, is scheduled to begin by the end of April 2026.
These are part of eight facilities earmarked for completion, with government already releasing UShs. 130.4 billion to fund the projects.
Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, Chairperson of the Communications and Signage Sub-Committee, stressed the importance of readiness.
“By the end of this month, we look forward to handing over to the UDPF Engineering Brigade the necessary administrative tools to commence work at four training facilities. FUFA has requested to be given up to the end of June 2026 to hand over FUFA Kadiba Stadium to commence upgrade works as a training facility for AFCON-2027.”
The LOC insists that the staggered timelines will not affect Uganda’s ability to deliver on its AFCON-2027 commitments, with the Kadiba upgrade expected to align with the broader infrastructure rollout across the PAMOJA host nations.
