Bruno Fernandes has been named the Football Writers’ Association’s men’s Footballer of the Year, the first Manchester United player to claim the honour since Wayne Rooney in 2010.
The United captain has produced eight goals and 20 assists in 34 matches this season, driving the club’s push to secure Champions League football under interim boss Michael Carrick.
Fernandes, who joined from Sporting Lisbon in 2020, rejected a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia last summer and has since delivered consistently decisive performances. His contract runs until 2027, with an option for another year.
United may finish without silverware again, but Fernandes’ influence has ensured their revival and earned him recognition as the heartbeat of Carrick’s side.
