Southampton have asked for more time to review allegations after being charged with spying on Middlesbrough before their Championship play-off semi-final.
The EFL claims a Saints staff member was caught recording Boro’s training session two days before the 0-0 first leg. Manager Tonda Eckert refused to answer questions post-match, while CEO Phil Parsons said the club is cooperating but needs “time to ensure all facts are properly understood.”
The disciplinary commission can impose punishments ranging from fines to points deductions or even expulsion from the play-offs.
With the second leg at St Mary’s on Tuesday and a Wembley final looming, the case threatens to overshadow the promotion race.
