Everton have been ordered to pay Burnley £35m after a Premier League commission ruled their PSR breaches in 2021-22 contributed to the Clarets’ relegation. Burnley will receive £26m in damages plus £9m interest — the biggest claim ever between clubs.
Everton branded the judgement “fundamentally flawed” and lodged an appeal, warning it sets a “dangerous precedent.” The club insists the ruling misrepresents evidence and remains confident of overturning it.
The case stems from Everton’s points deduction in 2023, with Burnley arguing sanctions should have applied earlier. Leeds have already settled with Everton, while other clubs may pursue claims.
Everton’s new owners, the Friedkin Group, say the ruling won’t affect transfer plans, though they view the award as excessive compared to past fines for Chelsea and West Ham.
