George Russell admits to being in a “very weird state of mind” after a bruising start to the 2026 Formula 1 season.
The Mercedes driver, tipped as favourite, has seen his campaign unravel with DNFs, penalties, and missed podiums. His teammate Kimi Antonelli now leads by 68 points, while Russell sits third after finishing 12th in Monaco.
“I still very much believe in myself,” Russell said, though he conceded Monaco qualifying was a personal failure. He pointed to Canada’s breakdown and Japan’s safety car as costly blows beyond his control.
Despite setbacks, Russell insists the season is long and vows to fight for wins, but admits the pain of watching his first real title chance slip away.
