Kigezi Homeboyz are not treating their promotion to the Uganda Premier League as a short stop. Club patron Eng. Bwambale Joram Marco has set out a clear message that the ambition now is survival, stability, and long-term growth at the top level of Ugandan football.
Bwambale, the proprietor of Marco Hardware and a key figure behind the club’s rise, played a major role in guiding Kigezi Homeboyz to become the first side from the region in decades to reach the topflight, a feat not seen since Horizon achieved it 25 years ago. The club’s rise has been built on strong backing from his hardware business, which has been the main sponsor throughout their recent campaign.
Now his focus has shifted from celebration to consolidation, with a strong belief that the club must not become a one-season story in the Uganda Premier League. He also wants the project to go beyond results on the pitch and become a platform for regional talent development.
“We want to stay in the Uganda Premier league for a longtime not just spending just a season in the topflight. I want to this talent develop in this region. This region used to have so many people represent the nation on national level. The spirit of sports had declined in this region as Marco Hardware we came in to ensure that we re-boost and motivate sports men and women in this region. We want to develop and nurture talents so that in years to come we can have so many players play for the national team as well play professional football. That’s basically my dream of supporting local sports especially in Kigezi region.” Said Bwambale
His words underline a wider vision that connects football success with regional pride and player development, with Kigezi Homeboyz seen as the centrepiece of that plan.
On the pitch, the club delivered a strong campaign in the FUFA Big League, finishing fourth with 51 points under coach Sadiq Ssempigi. That finish was enough to secure promotion into a newly expanded Uganda Premier League that will feature 18 teams next season. Alongside Kigezi Homeboyz, Kataka FC, Blacks Power and Ntugasaze also earned their place in the top division after a competitive season in the second tier.
As preparations begin for life among the elite, the challenge for Kigezi Homeboyz will be turning ambition into stability, while Bwambale’s long-term dream of seeing more players from the region reach national team level now steps into sharper focus.
