18 Masaza, one lake, one Kingdom, rise up!
Buganda Kingdom is set for another historic chapter in the revival of traditional boat racing as the Royal Regatta heads to its semi-final stage at Nakiwogo Landing Site in Entebbe on June 27, 2026.
Engineer Misagga has called upon fans from across Buganda and beyond to turn up in large numbers and support their counties as the competition gathers momentum.
The revival of boat racing follows a directive from the Kabaka of Buganda to restore and preserve one of the kingdom’s treasured cultural traditions. The response has been overwhelming, with the Royal Regatta growing into one of the most anticipated cultural sporting events in the region.

This year’s competition features all 18 Masaza teams, each bringing strength, determination, and pride to the waters of Lake Victoria.
More than just a race, the Royal Regatta is a celebration of Buganda’s heritage, culture, and unity. The event combines athletic excellence with traditional drums, chants, and vibrant displays of community spirit.
“Show up big. Pack the shores. Make Nakiwogo shake with your voice,” Misagga urged supporters ahead of the semi-finals.

Fans can expect thrilling action on the water as crews battle for places in the final, with every stroke bringing them closer to glory.
Organisers believe the Royal Regatta has grown into one of Uganda’s biggest cultural sporting events, uniting communities while showcasing the richness of Buganda’s traditions to the world.
The semi-finals will take place on Saturday, June 27, at Nakiwogo, Entebbe, where thousands are expected to gather in support of their respective Masaza teams.
The lake is calling. The kingdom is rising. Nakiwogo awaits.
