Nkumba University reached their second ever University league final after eliminating two time champions Kampala University on Tuesday. Despite a one-all draw in the Tuesday return-leg, Nkumba progressed to the 2024 final on 2-1 aggregate having won the first leg 1-0 away in Luzira. Joshua Odeke gave the visiting Kampala University lead in the 35th minute before Ishaque Balyawo leveled for the hosts. It was a sweet revenge for Nkumba who lost 3-2 to Kampala University in the 2016 final.
“Everyone would want to win but anything can happen. We played well and expressed ourselves well but it was not our day,” noted Tumusiime Vincent, the Kampala University head coach.
For Dr. Sulaiman Bbosa, it was a tricky fixture hard to win. “The players were a bit nervous in the opening minutes –the reason we conceded. But we re-organized and found rhythm in the end,” he noted.
Nkumba will now face 2019 champions Uganda Christian University (UCU) in the final scheduled for April 24th.
