The Uganda Rugby Cranes secured 6th place at the Munich Challenger Series over the weekend, following a 48-0 loss to Kenya. Uruguay won the final round of the men’s World Rugby HSBC Sevens Challenger 2024 in Munich and claimed the overall series title. They will now advance to the HSBC SVNS Play-Off in Madrid, along with Kenya, Chile, and Germany.
Los Teros Sevens dominated throughout the three-tournament Challenger series, adding their Munich victory to their earlier win on home soil in Montevideo in March, and finishing atop the standings with 56 points. Uruguay was crowned the Sevens Challenger Champion on the second day of the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Challenger at Dante Stadium on May 19, 2024, in Munich, Germany.
Uruguay edged out Germany 21-19 in a thrilling final, while Hong Kong China, narrowly missing the top four, secured the bronze medal in Munich. Although Kenya did not make the semi-finals, their fifth-place finish was sufficient to secure the runner-up spot to Uruguay in the final standings.
The pools for the HSBC SVNS Play-Off in Madrid have been set. Uruguay and Germany will face the USA and Canada in Pool A, while Kenya and Chile will compete against Spain and Samoa in Pool B.
