Frank Nsubuga Makes T20 World Cup History

At 43, Frank Nsubuga’s T20 World Cup debut was extraordinary. His crucial role in bowling out Papua New Guinea for just 77 runs set the stage for Uganda’s victory.

In a historic match between debutants, Uganda triumphed over Papua New Guinea in a Group C encounter at Guyana’s Providence Stadium.

Led by a disciplined bowling performance, Uganda secured their first-ever win in the men’s T20 World Cup on Thursday, rebounding from a 125-run defeat to Afghanistan in their first game.

Nsubuga’s figures of 2/4 were key to Uganda’s victory. His economy rate of four runs conceded was the lowest ever for a bowler completing their full four-over spell in the tournament, surpassing South Africa’s Anrich Nortje’s previous record.

Supported by Alphesh Ramjani (2/17), Cosmas Kyewuta (2/17), and Juma Miyagi (2/10), Uganda’s bowling attack showed remarkable unity, restricting Papua New Guinea’s batting lineup.

Despite a challenging start in their chase, Uganda found stability through Riazat Ali Shah’s composed innings of 33, ultimately leading them to victory.

This historic win marks a significant milestone for Uganda in T20 cricket and sets the stage for their upcoming clash against co-hosts West Indies on Sunday morning at the same grounds.
