Heavyweights Spain, defending champions Italy, and Croatia will face off in Group B, widely regarded as the “group of death,” as they vie for a spot in the latter stages of Euro 2024.
The UEFA Euro 2024 European Football Championship will be held in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024. Group B, which also includes a resilient Albania side, promises intense competition.
Spain enters the tournament as favorites to advance, having defeated both Italy and Croatia to secure their first UEFA Nations League title in 2023. Under the guidance of coach Luis de la Fuente, Spain claimed their first major trophy since winning Euro 2012.
Young wingers Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams add flair and speed to a technically adept squad, although the team lacks a consistent goalscorer, with Alvaro Morata out of form. Manchester City’s Rodri provides stability in midfield.
Italy, Euro 2020 champions, remain formidable despite missing the 2022 World Cup. New coach Luciano Spalletti, who replaced Roberto Mancini, will rely on Serie A champions Inter Milan’s stars and PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Like Spain, Italy lacks a top-quality centre-forward, with Genoa’s Mateo Retegui and Juventus’ Federico Chiesa viewed as key attacking options.
Croatia, with a blend of experience and emerging talent, aims to give veteran midfielder Luka Modric a memorable send off. Having finished second in the 2018 World Cup and third in Qatar 2022, Croatia’s squad includes standout players like Mateo Kovacic, Marcelo Brozovic, and Josko Gvardiol.
Albania, despite lacking star names, is determined to challenge the group’s heavyweights. Known for their defensive capabilities and counter-attacking potential, they hope to cause upsets.
Group B matches begin on June 15, with Albania facing Italy and Spain taking on Croatia. The fixtures continue with Spain vs. Italy and Albania vs. Croatia on June 20, concluding with Spain vs. Albania and Italy vs. Croatia on June 24.
Spain Vs Italy and Italy Vs Croatia will be broadcast live on NBS Sport.
