South Sudan to Host First International Game at FIFA-funded $5 Million Stadium

The announcement was made by a high-level inaugural committee comprising senior officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, who revealed details of the stadium’s completion at a news conference on.

Notable figures such as President Salva Kiir Mayardit and FIFA President are expected to grace the official opening ceremony.

Scheduled for June 11, 2024, the match between Sudan and South Sudan promises to be a momentous occasion, drawing attention from football enthusiasts across the region.

The journey towards completing the stadium hasn’t been without its challenges, as construction delays were encountered due to various factors including funding issues, ownership disputes, corruption allegations, and financial constraints.

However, the intervention of FIFA in March 2024 provided the necessary impetus for the project’s resumption, ultimately leading to its successful completion.

South Sudan are fifth in Group B with 2 points from two games, 2 points behind leaders Senegal and Sudan.
