The awards returned on Tuesday at Route 256 in Lugogo, where up to five sports disciplines including football, basketball, athletics, ludo and motorsport were awarded by the organizers of the monthly awards.

Dauda and Lwanga, who surprisingly saw off elite drivers to win last month’s Fort Portal rally, led the list of winners for July.

The Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 6 driver came out on top in a category that also featured Mike Mukula Jr and Jonas Kansiime.

Dauda says he is surprised but grateful for the award, “I did not see it coming but I am grateful for the award. It’s a motivation for me to go race and come back with good results in order to achieve such wins.”

Dauda believes he will carry that impressive form into this weekend’s Masaka- Ssembabule race with eyes set on the NRC title race.

“My win in Fort Portal was worked for since I did not participate but I competed, I also pushed the car to the limits and we are well prepared for the event in Masaka.”

“Myself and the team are targeting the championship since we are not far off,” Dauda declared.

Football winner Amuri Mukasa who plays for Ssingo ssaza football team attributes his win to the Almighty God, the media and his support system for leading him to triumph.

Uganda’s first marathon gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games Victor Kiplangat won in athletics, Namuwongo Blazers centre Amisi Saidi was named the best basketball player.

Ssingo midfielder Amui Mukasa won the football award as Daniel Wanyama emerged the best Ludo player of the month.

The awards are held every first Tuesday of the month to recognize and award the month’s outstanding sports personalities.
