ATHLETICS: Jacob Kiplimo and Joshua Cheptegei Dominate New York

Jacob Kiplimo, the 2022 Common Wealth 5000 and 10,000 meters gold champion, has raised the Ugandan flag once more after winning the 2023 New York Half Marathon.

The 22-year-old Ugandan international finished the 2023 United Airlines New York City Half Marathon in the United States in a chilly 1:01:31.

Kiplimo, who had won gold at the World Cross Country championships 29 days ago ran a strong final mile of 4:19.

Another Ugandan long-distance runner Joshua Cheptegei also managed to take home a bronze medal after emerging as the second and completing at 1:02:09.

The gold medallist noted that “the race was good from start to end” shortly after the contest and expressed his satisfaction and joy at winning. In spite of the cold, I tried my best. “I’m glad about this particular victory,”

The two Ugandans who won the medals got a sizable quantity of money: Kiplimo received $20,000 (about UGX 73, 892,680.00), and Cheptegei received $10,000. (at least UGX. 38,000,000).
