Micheal Wokorach retires from international Rugby at 32

Micheal Wokorach, a Ugandan national rugby player, has called it quits from national team duties.

The Platinum Credit Heathens star, while in South Africa for the Sevens Challenger Series, made it official that it was his last international appearance for the sevens side on labour day.
He stated on his social media that “Nange ndi muntu nkoowa,” which means I am also a person and I get tired.
This actually came with him handing over the captain’s handband to Ian Muyani, who is now the new Uganda Rugby captain moving forward.
Muyani has always been his right-hand man, as seen in several instances where he has stepped up for the team, even including the Safari Sevens 2021.
The new captain will now be assisted by another star player, Aaron Ofoyrwoth, who has also been phenomenal in his international duties.

According to Ugandan standards, Wokorach had a successful career that lasted more than ten years. Since 2010, he has participated in and captained Uganda at four Commonwealth Games competitions, five Challenger Series competitions, two Rugby World Cup Sevens competitions, the annual Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens competition, and numerous Sevens World Series competitions as an invitational team.

His departure from the sevens national team will, however, leave a huge mark on the squad, as he has been one of those acts that have seen the team thrive through it all.

But then again, this sends a certain kind of message to Ugandan rugby if a player can retire as young as 32 from rugby.
