Platinum Credit Heathens winger Lawrence Sebuliba believes winning this year’s Uganda cup title will be a major milestone for the young players at the club.
Sebuliba who has been at the club since 2013 has won four Uganda cup titles and says the side will focus on putting up a strong performance against first-time finalists Lifeguard Rams this Saturday.
As holders Heathens target a record-extending 13th Uganda Cup title, Lawrence Sebuliba turns focus to the youngsters within the Kyadondo based club’s ranks. The club has over the years nurtured several players and he notes the significance of retaining the title they won last year, “Retaining the title would mean a lot because no defending champion comes out to lose, to the young lads it means a lot and even for us who have won a couple of them, winning has no limit so we want more,” Sebuliba noted.
“We come into the game hoping to stage a very good team against Rams who are a big team and no team reaches the final by luck. They have worked their way up and its going to be a very interesting final and we call upon all the fans to come for the game.”
Heathens have had an impressive Uganda cup performance as the Mohammad Athio coached side went unbeaten in the group stages scoring 211 points across four games. In the quarterfinals, they saw off Jinja Hippos 32-23 before they overcame arch rivals KCB KOBs 30-23 in the semifinals over the weekend.
Assistant coach Kevin Makmot believes it will be a well-contested final, “The team is doing well and only trevor Ochan is the injury absentee. We are not going to give chance to our opponents on Saturday and we will go in with the full game plan and style of play.”
Utility back Malcolm Okello who scored 20 of the team’s 30 points in the semifinal looks ahead to the tie, “It will mean a lot to win the Uganda cup because it’s a journey that I’s starting at the right home. Winning should be part of us as a club,” Okello revealed.
The game will be played at the King’s park arena, Bweyogerere swith women’s holders Avengers facing Nile Rapids in the women’s final.
