Stanbic Black Pirates will be looking to defined their title as the Nile Special Rugby Championship returns
The Nile Special Rugby Championship is set to kick off on February 3, 2024, featuring 12 men’s teams vying for the ultimate title. The Stanbic Black Pirates emerged victorious in the 2023 edition, defeating KCB Kobs in the final at Legends Rugby Club. Ivan Magomu’s impeccable performance, scoring three penalties and converting two tries, led the Black Pirates to a 23-7 win.
This season, the teams in contention include defending champions Stanbic Black Pirates, Toyota Buffaloes, Platinum Credit Heathens, KCB Kobs, Life Guard Rams, Plascon Mongers, Makerere Impis, Jinja Hippos, Rhinos, Walukuba Barbarians, returning Warriors, and the new entrant Kampani Kitante Eagles.
The women’s league will feature the Uganda Cup Women’s Champion Nile Rapids, making their debut alongside Mbale’s She Wolves as underdogs. The Black Panthers also make a comeback after a rebuilding phase.
The women’s league teams for 2024 comprise Avengers, Black Pearls, Thunderbirds, Ewes, Nile Rapids, Panthers, and She Wolves.
