Uganda Cranes’ forward, Travis Mutyaba, has embarked on an exciting chapter in his football journey, securing a lucrative four-and-a-half-year contract with Zamalek Sports Club in Egypt. The 18-year-old sensation had garnered attention across Uganda, the CECAFA region, and the African continent over the past year, emerging as one of the most sought-after talents in the footballing world.
With 8 caps for the Uganda national senior team, Mutyaba’s rise to prominence was nurtured at Sports Club Villa, Uganda’s most successful entity. Although initially linked with a move to Georgian club Dinamo Tbilisi, fate intervened, and Zamalek seized the opportunity to bring him onboard.
Negotiations spanning close to 11 days culminated in a mutually beneficial agreement, paving the way for Mutyaba to travel from Georgia to Cairo for the formalities. The contract, estimated at $750,000 (at least Ug.Shs 2.8 billion) for over four and a half years, promises significant financial rewards, with Mutyaba and his management set to receive $530,000 (at least Ug.Shs 2 billion), while his parent club which is either SC Villa or Dinamo Tbilisi stands to earn $220,000 (at least Ug.Shs 841,318,280).
In the initial six months, Mutyaba is poised to pocket $50,000 (at least Ug. Shs 191,208,700), with subsequent seasons seeing his earnings rise to $120,000, excluding bonuses and allowances. The contract holds options for renewal, ensuring a promising future for the rising star in Zamalek’s ranks.
Mutyaba’s arrival adds to Zamalek’s impressive roster during the transfer window that also includes, Abdallah El-Said, Mohab Yasser, Nasser Maher, Mohamed Atef, Yasser Hamed and Seif Farouk Jaafar. These latest changes signal the club’s resurgence following the lifting of a transfer ban imposed in 2023 due to cases involving unpaid dues to clubs and players.
Currently positioned 12th on Egypt’s league table, Zamalek aims to ascend in the standings with the addition of talented players like Mutyaba to their lineup.
