Uganda is gearing up to send three athletes to participate in the first series of the 2024 Pentathlon World Cup, scheduled from the 5th to the 10th of next month in Cairo, Egypt. The trio set to represent Uganda includes Marshall Miiro, Rashidah Najjuma, and former Uganda national team swimmer Arnold Kisulo, who is poised to make his debut on the international stage.

As they jet off today, the athletes will enter a residential camp ahead of the games commencing, underscoring their dedication and focus on achieving success at the Pentathlon World Cup. Marshall Miiro, who clinched a medal for Uganda at the 2023 Africa/Oceania Pentathlon Championships last September, is eager to showcase his talent on a global stage. This World Cup event marks Uganda’s third international appearance in the past two years, signifying the country’s growing presence in the sport.

The upcoming series in Egypt will be followed by competitions in Europe in April and May, with the African Championships slated for June, serving as a crucial Olympic qualifier.

In an exclusive statement to NBS Sport, Simon Peter Komakech, President of the Uganda Modern Pentathlon Association, expressed confidence in the team’s preparedness. He highlighted that the athletes underwent intensive training sessions, including swimming training at Makerere University and practice sessions at the cricket oval. Komakech emphasized that the team is ready for the challenge, aiming to secure at least two medals by implementing the strategies learned during training.

Pentathlon, a demanding sport, encompasses five distinct disciplines: swimming, fencing, horse-riding, shooting, and running.
