MUBS secured their spot in the Pepsi University Football League semifinals by defeating Bugema University 1-0, with Stuart Magumba emerging as the hero by scoring the winning goal in the 86th minute.
Despite earlier criticism from fans regarding missed opportunities, Magumba’s perseverance paid off.
Expressing his joy, he stated, “I am thrilled to have scored my first goal for my university and to clinch the victory.”
The match was evenly contested, with few scoring chances for both teams until Magumba’s decisive strike, which was assisted by Justine Odongo.
Bugema struggled to recover from their goalless draw in the first leg, ultimately falling short.
MUBS’s victory was a testament to their determination and home advantage.
Coach Medhi Nyanzi attributed Bugema’s loss to missed chances, expressing disappointment but determination to improve in the future.
“We failed to win because we were unlucky; we tried our level best but everything failed as our strikers were not clinical at all. But we shall try again next time,” he said.
MUBS now joins Uganda Christian University (UCU) in the semifinals, marking another step towards the coveted title.
