At the 13th African Games, Uganda secured the silver medal in the women’s singles badminton event, with Husina Kobugabe demonstrating exceptional skill and resilience throughout the tournament. In the final, Kobugabe faced off against South Africa’s top seed, Johanita Scholtz, in a tightly contested match that had spectators on the edge of their seats.
Kobugabe’s journey to the final was marked by impressive victories. Starting in the round of 64 with a bye, she progressed to the round of 32, defeating Zambia’s Matildah Kalandanya with a commanding 2-0 win. Continuing her momentum, she overcame Algeria’s Yassmina Chibah in the round of 16 with another 2-0 victory. In the quarterfinals, Kobugabe made history by defeating Africa’s number one player, KUNE Kate Foo, in a thrilling encounter, securing a remarkable 2-1 victory.
Advancing to the semifinals, Kobugabe faced Nigerian Dorcas Ajoke Adesokan and delivered a convincing performance, winning 2-0 to secure her place in the final.
