The Uganda U20 Men’s National Football Team, the Uganda Hippos, secured their spot in the All-Africa Games semifinals after a hard-fought victory over Senegal with a 1-0 win at the Accra Sports Stadium.
With goalkeeper Abdu Magada sidelined due to a knee injury sustained in the previous match against Nigeria, Coach Morely Byekwaso called upon Shamulan Kamya who stepped up admirably to ensure the Hippos secured a clean sheet.
The game started with Senegal initially dominating possession but they failed to capitalise on that and score any goals.
Uganda took the lead in 26th minute thanks to an Arafat Kizza Usama rebound after his penalty initially hit the post.
Uganda’s defence frustrated all Senegal’s attempts to equalize, ensuring the Hippos took all the three points and secured a place in the semifinals.
The Hippos will face South Sudan in their final group stage match on Friday 15th March.
