FUFA President, Moses Magogo has revealed that there was no consultation with the country’s football governing body on the renovation works at Namboole Stadium.
Speaking during a parliamentary session, Magogo said that had they been consulted, the mistakes made that have stalled the completion of works would have been avoided.
Magogo made the remarks on the floor of Parliament as Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among provided an update on her recent inspection of the stadium. She further explained that a detailed report would be made by the Parliamentary team constituted to look into the issues of Namboole Stadium.
Addressing the impending World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria, Magogo outlined the strict regulations set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding venue approval.
He explained, “CAF operates in such a way that you confirm where you are going to play 75 days before the game.”
Expressing uncertainty over Namboole Stadium’s approval status, Magogo cautioned, “Once you don’t enter your venue before the deadline, CAF does it automatically.”
“Our last game was in Morocco, I will not be surprised if CAF enters that venue as the venue for our next games,” he added.
The renovation of Namboole Stadium, undertaken by the engineering brigade of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) since 2020 has seen the national football team, the Uganda Cranes host their international games away from home.
