Makindye West Member of Parliament Hon. Allan Ssewanyana is taking a sabbatical from football administration citing financial constraints and a witch-hunt by FUFA leadership.
The embattled legislator who spent 17 months on remand over murder allegations before attaining bail in February last year, has been the president and chief funder of the struggling third-tier side that plays in the Kampala region league.
“I got challenges financially as a person. Football is a game where you put in money expecting no returns apart from nurturing talent. I am pulling out a bit due to low finances but also the political pressure in sports. When I expressed interest in contesting for the FUFA presidency, stakeholders including FUFA leadership started to fight me and my club to the extent of snubbing my players for any competition including the FUFA Drum,” noted Ssewanyana, who met with the community on Tuesday to let them know of his next move. He now wants the community to run the club.
Katwe United failed to turn up for their recent home fixture against Kisugu United and is currently 6th with 18 points on the 10-team Cobra group table led by Proline FC with 31 points.
Catida FC leads the other Scorpion Group with 45 points in 18 games, 13 points above second-placed New Life Katereke.
